Frequently Asked Questions

What is micoblading?

Microblading is a process of cosmetic tattooing whereby a microblading specialist applies colored pigment to a clients eyebrows using a fine bladed microblading hand tool. Microblading is semi-permanent and can last anywhere from 6 months to 3 years. Microblading provides a more natural look as it aims to simulate hair strokes. The results are natural and shaped fuller looking brows. The tattoo will initially appear darker but significantly fades during the healing process. Microblading requires two appointments, during the first appointment  we will enhance your eyebrows and deposit the first layer of pigment into the skin. The second appointment, also known as the touch up appointment will take place 8-12 weeks after your initial appointment. The touch up corrects any irregularities in the microbladed hair strokes and it completes the microblading process.

Who is a good candidate?

Many factors decipher whether or not a person is a good candidate for microblading. The most crucial deciding factors depend on the client's skin condition and health. If you have a pre-existing medical condition or are on any medications, it might be best to wait.

Not everyone is a candidate, please click "Who is NOT a Candidate" to see if you meet the requirements.

Why get microblading?

Microblading provides clients with full, beautiful brows all day, every day. This is great for  anyone that is busy and doesn't have time to apply brow makeup, anyone who struggles with getting the perfect shape with makeup, and anyone who doesn't want to worry about their brows sweating off during a workout or swimming. It is also great for people that have lost eyebrow hair from over plucking/waxing or people with little hair.

How much does it cost?

How long does it last?

Microblading can last anywhere from 6 months to 3 years depending on the person's skin & lifestyle. Please understand that  microblading is a process that requires multiple sessions. Your first appointment may not provide you with your ultimate results, especially after healing.

Does it hurt?

Although the microblading process is not completely painless, strong topical anesthetics are used which will make the procedure much more comfortable. Everyone's pain tolerance is different but we will take every action to make you more comfortable. Most clients describe the pain as minimal, and find tweezing and threading more uncomfortable.

How long does it take?

The initial appointment takes around two and a half to three hours. A good portion of the appointment is paperwork, numbing, and designing your new brows.

Does Microblading scar?

No, microblading itself will not cause scarring. What can cause scarring after a microblading procedure is picking at the healing skin. This is why it is extremely important to NOT pick at any scabs or flaking skin after the procedure. Picking at the skin could also result in a loss of pigment.

What will they look like afterwards?

Immediately after the first session, brows will look darker, bolder, thicker, and sharper than what you are used to. Most clients experience some redness & mild swelling as well. For some clients, their new brows will look completely wearable but this is not the case for most, so do not book your initial appointment within a week of a big event just to be safe!

Why do some people hold pigment better than others?

Everyone's skin and genetic makeup is different. Pigment can fade depending on lifestyle and skin type. People with naturally oily skin, smokers, avid swimmers, and those who tan regularly will require more touch ups. Some clients will not retain pigment as well as others, and require more sessions to retain their desired look.

Is this a tattoo?

Yes it is a form of a tattoo. The pigment is implanted at the dermal layer of the skin.

Microblading is done with a disposable manual hand held tool with sterile needles that applies colored pigment to a clients eyebrows. By using this hand held tool, hair strokes will appear crisper and sharper than by using a machine.

How do you choose shape & color?

Shape, size, color and placement are all dependent on your anatomy.  Measurements will be taken, and a template of your new brows will be drawn on prior to the actual microblading procedure takes place. It is a good idea to draw on your brows as you normally wear them the day of your appointment.

What if I don't like it?

Permanent makeup is an art, not a science.  It is always possible that with any cosmetic service a client will not like their end results. That being said, we at Miami Valley Microblading will do our absolute best to ensure you are happy with your end results. Microblading is an investment and will require patience. Your brows will go through multiple healing stages before they become the brows you have dreamed of.

May I still tweeze/wax my brows?

It is best to not tweeze or wax your brows for at least two weeks prior to your appointment. Once your microblading is completely healed, you may resume regular shaping.

Should I wear makeup to my appointment?

Yes, you should wear your normal makeup to the appointment. It is very helpful to see how you typically wear your hair and makeup. It is also helpful to see how you do your brows and what colors you use.

Do I need to shave my hair?

No!!! It is better to work with what hair you do have. We will shape your brows as needed with tweezing and choose a color pigment that blends seamlessly with your natural brows.

Will it look natural?

Absolutely! The technique used creates realistic, simulated hair strokes that look just like your real eyebrow. It's important that you choose the right specialist that can give you the realistic 3D look.

May I still get Botox, fillers, and facials?

It is important to realize Botox and Fillers can change the look and shape around the brow. Botox will change the lift of your brow, therefore Botox injections should only happen after your brows are completed.  Facials cause the skin to be too sensitive, so you should not receive a facial until a month before or a month after your microblading appointments.

What is the healing process?

Most clients experience some swelling and tenderness after the procedure, this can last a day or so depending on the client. Brows will appear darker, wider, and sharper than the way that they will heal. This is due to the fact that the pigment has not yet settled into your skin. As your skin heals over the tattoo, your brows will appear lighter and softer. It is very important to follow aftercare instructions.
